Each group needs:

• 2 small cups (in which to plant seeds in soil)
• Potting soil (enough to fill each planting cup about ¾ full)
• 4 seeds (such as beans or peas)
• Marker or pencil (to label the planting cups)
• Tape (optional, to label the cups)
• What Do Plants Need? Worksheet, one per person

For the entire class to share:

• A dark area (such as a box or closet)
• A bright area with sunlight
• Several glass bottles or jars (enough to place over some of the planting cups)
