• writing utensil

Each group needs:

• 1 plastic bin or tray (15" x 11.5" x 4.5" to represent bayous)
• sand (as sediment)
• water
• plastic cups or pitchers (for pouring water)
• food coloring (to simulate pollutants)
• 1 ruler or measuring tape

For the entire class to share:

• gravel, clay, or small rocks (optional, for different sediment types)
• small sponges, cotton balls, or coffee filters (to model sediment barriers)
• craft sticks, popsicle sticks, or straws (for building models)
• paper and pencils for planning and data recording
• laptop or projector (for visuals)
